I learned that connections between words can vary quite alot from person to person. What you would never think of comes easily to someone else. Words may connect to things they did not expect. I believe a good portion of this is based on your surroundings. For example, people could have an inside joke with "watermelons" and "dishwashers". So, when someone would say one word, they would immediately begin to think about the second one. So, if you plan to use these words in a similar context in your writing, be sure that you explain what the relationship is.
